Muskego Basketball Steps Up to the Line to Battle Cancer

Every year, the Muskego Basketball program raises money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help a child in need receive their wish. Swish for a Wish is a pledge fundraiser based on the amount of free throws players make; both girls and boys basketball participated in the event.

This season the fundraiser focused on raising money for Sammy Schneiker, a 2014 Muskego High School graduate who was diagnosed in 2015 with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Sammy has gone through multiple rounds of chemo and bone marrow transplants; she is currently doing well and is planning to return to college next fall. While at MHS, Sammy was actively involved in many organizations and athletics, most prominently, the MHS Band and MHS Girls Basketball.

The basketball program was proud to present over $10,000 to Sammy and her family. The girls program donated $7500 to the Schneiker family and the boys were able to donate around $3300.

Sammy is an overall amazing person. Despite her circumstances and current battle, she donated half of the money back to Children’s Hospital and bought gifts for all the children on the cancer floor!

Muskego-Norway School District is proud to have an alumna with such character, strength, and kindness. Our thoughts and support are with Sammy as she continues to fight and as she moves on from her battle and resumes her education in the fall.
